Karma Yoga Fundraiser 2019

Can a Yoga practice help build a home for a family in Africa?

YES! Through Karma Yoga, The Practice of Selfless Service.  Translated into our daily lives as service to the community and acting with heartfelt concern towards others.  Some great examples of this are participating in a fundraiser for a good cause, volunteering to serve meals in a soup kitchen, working in a non-profit Thrift Store, or helping to build homes with Habitat for Humanity.

In line with the belief of being able to create a positive impact within our global community, in July 2019, my sister and I will be leading a team of 14 volunteers to Kabwe, Zambia to build 2 homes for families that have been living in unsafe deplorable conditions. Often the families have been impacted by HIV/AIDS and consist of orphaned and vulnerable children living in poverty with their caregiver grannies.

Recognizing that yoga is a common unifying practice that brings people together in community, I will be offering a pay by donation yoga class on June 29, 2019 to help raise funds to build these homes working with the non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity Zambia (HfH)

We honor this practice and recognize that the one served and the one serving are both being transformed. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to support building homes for families living in Kabwe, Zambia

HfH’s mission is to build homes for people in need all around the world, and to eliminate poverty housing one house at a time.

Along with our team mates we have traveled to Africa every year since 2010 to help build houses. We are proud to say so far we have built 14 homes from slab to roof that have housed over 100 people in need of a decent place to live. And we will be continuing this work as long as we are able.

The picture shows 2 homes we built in 2018 and what we will be building again.  And of course we will always have some spontaneous yoga with the kids in the neighbourhood!

To support our efforts we respectfully request if you would join us at our event. Door prizes will be drawn and healthy treats will be served.   Space is limited
