Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. ~Margaret Mead
Another amazing and rewarding experience working with Habitat for Humanity Zambia in Lusaka. Starting the trip off with 2 sisters, born in Zambia, now living in Canada, Peggy and Kathryn reached out to the community of Lusaka by offering yoga classes in exchange for donations to support the work of Habitat for Humanity Zambia. 10,000 kwatcha was raised, all proceeds donated to Habitat Zambia and most important, connections were made with wonderful people and the word is spreading about the work that Habitat Zambia is doing in the country.
Warm thanks goes out to all who supported our efforts, Siobhan at @Ad-dicts.com, Leopards Hill Polocrosse Club, Sonal at Yoga Rays, Jackie and staff at Curves Lusaka Mandahill, Wayside Bed Breakfast yoga teachers Simone and Nickie at Yoga Lusaka and Faiza Assad for hosting us and all the yogis that joined us.
Their support has helped to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families today, tomorrow and always.
And that difference has already been shown. The following week 11 team members joined Habitat Team Leader Peggy Bell to build 2 homes for 2 deserving families in Linda Township Lusaka. Working with the staff of Habitat Zambia and local skilled tradesmen as well as the combined efforts of the community, 20 people now have a safe warm place to live. 70 year old Kaundula and wife Eli supporting their 2 daughters and 9 grandkids, and in the other household 70 year old Miliyah supporting her 2 daughters and 4 grandkids will receive a modest decent place to live. Working together we are helping to make a more healthy and positive future in their lives for generations to come.
We are extending an offering of a free yoga class customized for you and your friends. Our offering is to share the healing transformative practice that nourishes, supports and makes a positive differences in our lives and the lives of others.
Why are we offering this? We are reaching out to like minded people in our community who have a passion for change and a desire to make a positive impact in our global community.
How can we do this with Yoga? Yoga proceeds from the knowledge that all life is interconnected and it is an approach to life that values creating balance, peace, good health and harmony with all creation. It brings people together and extends the benefits off our yoga mats and out into our global community.
How are we helping the global community? We are working in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Zambia, who are supporting our efforts and they will be available at your event to talk about their work. In exchange we would graciously accept donations from participants to join in the classes. There will be no fee to you for the yoga teachings and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the work of Habitat Zambia.
